On Friday, October 28 teachers participated in a writing workshop with presenters from Lucy Calkins & Colleagues. Reading and writing are two key points in a child's educational upbringing and teachers have the tools to ensure students learn at high levels of rigor and thinking.
Portable word walls prove to be effective as students write narratives. These can be placed in a student folder for quicker access to words to enhance vocabulary. Teachers also change portable word walls on a monthly basis to add new words to the list.
Here is an example of the time allotted for a writing workshop. As teachers continue to fine tune writing workshops in their classrooms, students will learn mechanics of writing as they write more and more each day.
